Happy Ram Navami

रघुकुल रीत सदा चली आई, प्राण जाए पर वचन न जाई ॥

30 March 2023 marks Sri Rama Navami (श्री राम नवमी) which celebrates the birthday of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu.

The festival celebrates the descent of bhagwan shree Vishnu as the Rama avatar, through his birth to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya. The festival is a part of the spring (Vasanta) Navratri, and falls on the ninth day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of Chaitra, the first month in the Hindu calendar.

Rama is the central figure of the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana, a text historically popular in the South Asian and Southeast Asian cultures. His ancient legends have attracted Bhasya (commentaries) and extensive secondary literature and inspired performance arts. Two such texts, for example, are the Adhyatma Ramayana – a spiritual and theological treatise considered foundational by Ramanandi monasteries, and the Ramcharitmanas – a popular treatise that inspires thousands of Ramlila festival performances during autumn every year in India.

Lord Ram, though born in a royal family, his life was full of challenges and unexpected changes such as an exile into impoverished and difficult circumstances, ethical questions and moral dilemmas on various occasions.

The entire life story of Rama, Sita and their companions allegorically discusses duties, rights and social responsibilities of an individual. It illustrates Dharma and Dharmic living through model characters.
